Our Progressive Care

Maternal Child Services. The Maternal Child Services Department at Saint Mary’s Health Care provides a comprehensive array of services for mothers, newborns and children. Here, our RNs are part of a vibrant multidisciplinary team whose main focus is progressive, family-centered care. Our prenatal care offerings include outpatient prenatal education and diagnostic testing. Inpatient labor and delivery services take place in our 6-bed Antepartum Unit, 10 Labor, Delivery and Recovery Rooms and 20 Post Partum Care beds. Newborns have access to a state-of-the-art 15-bed, Level III NICU should the need arise. In addition, our fully equipped Pediatric Care Unit provides care to children and adolescents 17-years and below.

Our Multidisciplinary Team Approach. Comprised of RNs, attending physicians, residents, perinatologists, neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, lactation consultants and complementary therapists, our multidisciplinary team functions collaboratively in the care of our patients and their families. This integrated approach enables us to provide each patient with an individualized treatment plan. In addition to this unique multidisciplinary approach, we also place a strong emphasis on continuing education, evidence-based practice, a healthy work environment and professional growth. We are confident that these emphases not only enrich and challenge our staff, but also ensure our patients receive exceptional clinical outcomes in the safest of environments.

• A Rapid Response team to assist in the care of rapidly deteriorating patients
• Highly involved Neonatal Nurse Practitioners on call 24/7 who attend all c-section deliveries and are available for consult on vaginal deliveries and newborn care
• Neonatologists who are available to our nurses and patients 24-hours a day
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified RNs who are available for additional support
• Certified Lactation Consultants and Counselors who assist with breast-feeding support

Our Progressive Care. Maternal Child is a place where patients and their families can find advanced health care technologies and the best in personalized holistic care. Our staff is equipped with a fully integrated CPOE system that allows for in-room documentation and seamless, online access of all medical records—a technology that greatly increases the time RNs spend at the patient’s bedside. Our Birthing Center is outfitted with the latest in patient-controlled epidurals and electronic fetal monitoring. Our NICU associates are skilled in the used of sophisticated neonatal monitoring equipment, as well as neonatal massage and music therapy—techniques that are proven to greatly benefit the recovery of premature infants. We have recently added a Noelle Maternal Fetal simulator doll to our toolbox to provide educational opportunities for our staff and the multidisciplinary team. And, because we are dedicated to providing our staff with groundbreaking technologies that make their work more effective and efficient while allowing them more time to be patient-focused, the innovations will keep coming.
